Decorating the home can be a laborious and frustrating time for those skilled at DIY. It’s even harder for those that are new to home improvement.
If you’re considering making a few changes to your home but are unsure of what to do, we take a look at some tips you could follow.
Wallpaper Hanging
Before getting started it’s important to protect your furniture and anything else that could be damaged. Measure the walls and cut your wallpaper to fit. Apply paste evenly spread out across the whole sheet. Stick it to the wall and using a brush make sure it’s even and flat against the wall so no bubbles appear.
Painting a Ceiling
Ceiling painting is very tricky, but it is possible to make it easier. We advise you to start at the edges and work your way to the centre of the room. Try and paint carefully to reduce dripping, or using a roller can reduce this also. Once dry apply a second coat in the same manner.
Artex Removal
Artexing was a popular feature in many homes in the 1970’s and 80’s that complemented the décor of the era. It can be hard to get rid of. To do it, use a hammer, chisel and a steamer or steam stripper – remember to wear protective gear. Artex can contain asbestos, which is dangerous, so if you’re unsure seek help from a professional.
Tile Removal
Removing tiles from a kitchen or bathroom can be equally as tricky as artex removal. Ideally, a hammer and cold chisel should be used to remove the tile grouting. It make for an easier job in moving entire tiles rather than smashing and cracking them off the wall.
