Tips To Clean Your Bathroom Easily and Effectively
The bathroom can be a tricky place to clean. But with these helpful tips, the chore doesn’t need to be so tiresome; in fact it can be relatively easy!
Shower
To wash your shower, fill up a plastic bag with white vinegar and tie it around the nozzle and head of your shower. Soak the showerhead overnight and rinse it off in the morning. If there is any visible dirt, it should wipe off easily with a sponge and bathroom cleaner.
Shower Curtain
Your shower curtain should be safe to wash in a cold cycle in your washing machine along with your regular detergent. The trick here is to include a couple of old towels in with the load as these help scrub off hard to remove grime.
Toilet
Pour a cup of baking soda into the bowl; let it sit for a few minutes, then flush. If this doesn’t work, try spraying the toilet bowl with bleach and leaving it to sit for 30 minutes to 1 hour. If you don’t have a spray bottle to dispense your bleach, simple pierce a small hole into the top of the bottle and squirt it in those hard to reach places.
Sinks and Taps
Sinks and vanity units can be a little more difficult to clean than the toilet since they can often be surrounded by items that you may not want to expose to harsh cleaning solutions.
If the area surrounding your sink is safe to spray an all-purpose cleaning solution (or a light bleach solution) then you can simply spray the area, leave it to soak, then wipe and rinse the surfaces.
If that doesn’t work you can turn on the shower, turn up the heat and steam the room for 20 minutes. This will help remove any tough stains and make it easier to clean when you come to wipe down.
If your bathroom sink area is a little more delicate, you can apply the cleaning solution directly to an old towel and wipe the sink to apply it. Use the steam technique for 20 minutes to help lift stubborn stains, then wipe down the sink surfaces with a towel or cloth.
Tiles and Walls
If a bathroom cleaning solution isn’t doing the job on its own. You can use the shower steam technique to help the solution eat away at though stains.
Grout
To clean any discoloured grout, simply take a grout brush, or even an old toothbrush, dip it in bleach and scrub. Any mold or residue should come off without using too much elbow grease.
Ventilation Fan
Most modern bathrooms have a ventilation fan, and it’s important to clean it. The fans are there to help reduce mold and mildew by removing water particles in the damp air. But doing so also sucks up lots of other airborne particles that collect on the blades and cover.
To clean the fan make sure you switch off the breaker. Once you’ve double-checked the electricity is off then remove the cover and soak it in some warm water. If you’re dealing with stubborn stains you can leave it soak in white vinegar.
Next take your vacuum cleaner, and remove any large collections of dust and dirty. Then you can remove the fan and leave it soak in warm water, a cleaning solution, or white vinegar. Use a paintbrush to clean and left over dirty around the mechanism.
Then once you wipe down and rinsed off the three components, you can put the fan back to take and switch your beaker back on.
Pipes
The best way to effectively clean your pipes without buying industrial strength pipe cleaner is to use a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Simply sprinkle baking soda down the drain, and pour in some white vinegar; you’ll hear the solution fizzing. Once it’s done turn on the taps and rinse.
