Treat your bathroom with the respect and care that it deserves
The bathroom is arguably one of the most important rooms in the house and yet is more often than not afforded the least amount of attention. OK, so it is the place where we empty our bodies of waste matter and cleanse ourselves of the dirt and sweat built up over a hard day’s work – so why do we neglect it so?
It is understandable why most people would prioritise their front room/lounge area and bedroom as that is where the majority of our time is spent when we’re at home; however it is all too easy to underestimate the power a bathroom can have over your every day to day mood.
Bear with me for a moment while I elaborate: I am going to put forward two different scenarios and I’d like for you to imagine how both would affect your mood.
Scenario number 1:
You are abruptly awoken by the piercing sound of your morning alarm: it’s 6.30am. The thought of climbing out of bed and into a weak, cold shower repulses you so you snap the snooze on and go back to sleep for a few minutes.
When you no longer have any more time to waste you pull back the duvet and drag yourself out of bed and head towards your bathroom. You swing the door open and sluggishly stumble toward the old wash basin that is loosely hanging on to the wall. All around you the tiles look drab and dull, while sleepily brushing your teeth you glance around your dated bathroom and let out a drawn out sigh.
Scenario number 2:
You slowly open your eyes and glance over to your alarm clock and notice that you’ve got a few minutes before it goes off. You turn off your alarm and climb out of immediately and make your way towards your bathroom.
When you walk through the door you are greeted by the fresh, earthy colours that fill you with sudden warmth despite the morning chill that’s spread throughout the house. You make your way over to your new sandy, travertine wash bowl and turn on the tap. While brushing your teeth you stand and admire your stunning new bathroom and look forward to your inviting rainfall shower. Without hesitation you proceed to crack on the hot water and watch as the room slowly begins to fill with a delightful steamy warmth – the perfect way to kick start your day!
Now I can appreciate that scenario number 2 comes across as rather bias, though you can see where I am coming from. Something as subtle as simply changing your bathrooms colour scheme and upgrading your lighting setup can have a significant impact on the way you feel when entering your bathroom.
A bathroom renovation doesn’t have to be an overly expensive project! In fact if done correctly and with due care and consideration you can do so in an affordable manner. Treat your bathroom with the level of respect it deserves because let’s face it: it has to put up with your shit every day!
